Guy Weir, Biography

Guy Weir was born in Colchester, England on the 16th July 1945, spending his childhood on his parent's farm in Tipperary, Ireland and later Suffolk England. Painting, particularly in water colours has been for some years his full time occupation.

Guy Weir painting in Africa - by Guy Weir painting in Africa - photograph by Tesfaye MenoeshaGuy has lived in the Dordogne, France since the early seventies. Usually he leaves France every winter for more exotic climes, Latin America, Asia, Africa, to travel and paint. He immerses himself entirely in the experience sometimes travelling rough, sleeping in native huts, seeking out the culture and soul of the countries he visits which is often reflected in his paintings. He always paints directly from life, memory or from his own sketches.

Trained in English Art schools he likes the spontaneity of water colours and the ease with which they can be transported. Much of his paper is made especially for him.

His work can be found in Galleries and Collections throught the world, for example the Museum Paul Delouvrier in the Cathedral D'Evry, France and the Kirsten Kjears Museum in Denmark.
